Getting Home Safe

Swift Taxis do everything - we can to make sure that our passengers get home safely. But once you’re out of the car, it’s really important that you get home safe. You never know the depths criminals are willing to go to make your life a misery.

This may sound very basic but after a gruelling flight with lots of jet lag or a booze-fuelled night, it’s important to make sure that you get home safe after you leave our taxi.

Of course, you can pre-book with us and we will make sure you get home safe. But there are other considerations you should take into account when you’re enjoying a night out that are out of our control.

Communication Is Key

One of the best things you can do is to let people know where you are. In an ideal world, you won’t be on your own. It’s true that there’s safety in numbers.

But if you do happen to find yourself isolated, it’s vital that you at least ring or message one, two or a few of your friends and family to let them know where you are. The last thing you want is for people to be worried about you. Make sure you charge your phone before a night out so that you can contact someone if you need to.

You should also try to stay in well-lit areas. Would-be attackers like to operate in the dark, so try to avoid areas without street lamps if you’re out at night.

Be Careful With Valuable Possessions

A lit mobile phone can be like a beacon to criminals. Make sure you keep your phone in a safe place when you go on a night out. If you leave it in one of our cars, of course we’ll be able to return it to you.

But once you’re out on the town, it’s your responsibility to keep hold of your possessions. The same goes for your money, whether you use cash or card. Keep it somewhere safe and make sure you have enough funds to get home after a night out otherwise you may be faced with a long and scary walk home alone in the dark.

Students Are Particularly At Risk

The Office for National Statistics says that students are three times more at risk of sexual assault than any other demographic. The mixture of alcohol and students not knowing exactly where they are (unlike locals) can provide a devastating mix. Spiking is also proving to be a growing problem at the moment.

This is why it’s a good idea to have a list of emergency contacts that you can get in touch with if you suspect things are going wrong.

You should stay vigilant while you’re out. It’s likely that you will have a great time, but it only takes one opportunity for a criminal to take advantage and the worst can happen.

It’s not just about you though as well. If you notice a friend has gone missing and you think they might be on their own, get in touch with them or find them to make sure they’re not travelling alone. You never know when you might need their help in return.
